Sangrur, September 24 – More than 100 fever cases have been recorded in Sunam constituency over the past four days, prompting the district health department to deploy doctors and medical interns to strengthen services at local government hospitals.
According to officials, 31 cases were reported on Tuesday, 26 on September 22, 36 on September 21, and seven on September 20. To handle the surge, two MD medicine doctors have been placed on a four-day rotation, while an MD pediatrician will remain in the affected areas for six days. Eight medical interns have also been assigned to provide support.
The doctors are conducting daily OPDs, screening suspected cases, and referring confirmed patients to government hospitals for further treatment. A special health department team also carried out check-ups in Sunam city’s slum areas on Tuesday to assess conditions and offer immediate medical aid.
District epidemiologist Dr. Upasana cautioned residents to remain alert for dengue and other vector-borne diseases. “High fever, body and joint pain, stomach problems, and loss of appetite are warning signs. Patients should immediately visit the civil hospital or consult a registered practitioner,” she said.
Free laboratory tests are available at Sunam’s civil hospital, with additional testing at a diagnostic centre near the old OPD complex. “Cold sponging and appropriate medicines are the main line of treatment, and all required drugs are available free of cost at the hospital,” Dr. Upasana noted.
She urged residents to take preventive steps, including avoiding water stagnation, using mosquito repellents, wearing full-sleeved clothing and footwear, and giving special attention to children, the elderly, and pregnant women. Maintaining hygiene, eating a balanced diet, and drinking sufficient water were also recommended.
