Over 15,500 Cases Settled at National Lok Adalat in Tricity

CHANDIGARH, March 9– The National Lok Adalat held at the District Courts on Saturday saw 18,118 cases taken up, with 15,582 resolved through mutual settlement. The total amount settled stood at ₹1,61,80,482. Organized under the District Legal Services Authority, the initiative provided an alternative dispute resolution platform for quicker justice.

Among the cases, 1,504 bank recovery matters were heard, with 1,495 settled, amounting to ₹39,65,385. A total of 636 traffic challans were taken up, with 360 resolved, contributing ₹9,33,180 to the settlements.

Besides, 192 criminal compoundable cases were considered, with 100 settled. Matrimonial disputes accounted for 72 cases, while 375 cheque bounce cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act were heard, with 178 settled, totaling ₹9.5 lakh in settlements. Labour dispute cases saw 1,496 matters fully resolved.

Over 13,700 Cases Resolved in Mohali

In Mohali, 18,096 pre-litigation and pending cases—including those related to criminal compoundable offences, bank recoveries, motor accident claims, labour disputes, revenue matters, and service-related grievances—were taken up. Of these, 13,719 cases were settled, with awarded amounts reaching ₹1,96,19,56,727.
