Chandigarh, April 1— Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday announced that his government has provided more than 55,000 government jobs to youth in the last 36 months under Mission Rozgar, calling it a milestone in employment generation.
Speaking at an event where over 700 newly recruited teachers received appointment letters, Mann congratulated them and expressed confidence in their dedication. “These jobs are purely on merit, and not a single appointment has been challenged in court,” he said, adding that transparent hiring has restored youth confidence in working for the state rather than seeking opportunities abroad.
Mann criticized previous governments for failing to provide jobs, saying those who deprived youth of employment are now unemployed themselves. “The same people who ruined the future of our youth have been removed from power by the people,” he remarked.
He also outlined education reforms, stating that infrastructure upgrades and better teacher training have boosted government school enrollments. “Teachers are being sent to top institutes nationally and abroad to enhance their skills,” he said, adding that the government has recruited staff to handle administrative tasks, allowing teachers to focus solely on education.
Calling on educators to play a key role in the ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ campaign against drug abuse, Mann urged them to guide students away from addiction. “Teachers are nation builders. It is our duty to protect Punjab’s future generations from drugs,” he said, noting that major drug traffickers have been jailed and their properties confiscated.
He mentioned the state’s focus on transparency and governance, stating that corruption will not be tolerated. “Every corrupt officer will be held accountable,” he asserted.
Mann also stressed the importance of regular Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs), saying they help parents stay informed about their children’s education. “Lakhs of parents are now engaging with schools to track their kids’ progress,” he said.
Urging new recruits to serve with dedication, he reminded them of their responsibility. “You are now part of this government. Use your position to help the needy and ensure public welfare,” Mann told them.
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains welcomed the chief minister and other dignitaries at the event.
