Panchkula, Sept 8 — A 25-year-old man allegedly kidnapped and murdered his neighbour’s eight-month-old son in Pinjore after the child’s mother rebuked him for creating a disturbance outside her house, police said Sunday.

The accused, identified as Kalu from Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on Saturday and produced before a local court, which remanded him in police custody for six days.

According to investigators, Kalu strangled the infant to death before burying the body in a nearby forest. “During questioning, the accused confessed to the crime. The child’s body was recovered and later handed over to the family after post-mortem,” a senior police officer said.

The incident unfolded late Friday night when Kalu and four companions were allegedly drinking and making loud noises outside the residence of a family from Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, who had moved into the colony just a week earlier.

When Payal, the infant’s mother, objected to the ruckus and warned that she would call the police, the group dispersed. However, around 1 am on Saturday, Kalu allegedly returned alone and, in an act of revenge, kidnapped the infant while his father was away from home.

Police said Kalu strangled the child and buried the body in a forested area nearby. The family later reported the child missing, prompting a search that led to Kalu’s detention and eventual confession.

Officials added that Kalu’s past record is being verified and the possible involvement of others is under investigation. “We are checking if the accused had a criminal history. The role of the other men who were with him that night is also being probed,” police said.

The case has shocked residents of the colony, where neighbours described the crime as “unimaginably brutal.”
