Chandigarh, June 20 — A week after 450 kg of paneer was seized from a shop operating out of House No. 714/2 in Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, lab tests have confirmed that the dairy product was both substandard and unsafe for consumption, officials said Thursday.

The food safety wing of the UT health department has now announced that appropriate legal action will be initiated against the shop owner under provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

“Selling or using substandard paneer poses a serious health risk. Strict action will be taken against any individual or business found violating food safety norms,” said a senior food safety officer from the department.

Authorities have urged residents to make purchases only from licensed and verified vendors possessing valid FSSAI licences.

Consumers are also encouraged to report any suspicious food items or suspected adulteration. Complaints can be filed directly with the food safety office at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh, or through the FSSAI grievance portal at https://foscos.fssai.gov.in/consumergrievance.

The department reiterated its commitment to cracking down on unsafe food products and ensuring public health safety.
