Lakhisarai, 22 January 2025: A 49-year-old man was fatally shot by unidentified assailants onboard the Howrah-Gaya Express near Kiul Junction in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district, officials reported Tuesday.
The victim, Dharmendra Kumar, was a resident of Mahsona village in the district. The brazen killing has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Superintendent of Railway Police (Jamalpur) Raman Chaudhary said the murder occurred as the train approached Kiul Junction in the evening. “Some miscreants shot dead the passenger when the train was about to stop. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants jumped off the train immediately after the incident and fled,” Chaudhary stated.
Preliminary investigations suggest a property dispute may have been the motive behind the killing. “We recovered property-related documents from the victim’s bag, which indicates a potential dispute,” Chaudhary added. He confirmed that authorities are examining all possible angles and have sent the body for a post-mortem examination.
Eyewitnesses inside the train recounted the moments of terror, describing how the assailants struck swiftly before escaping. The case is under active investigation, and police are working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
