New Delhi, 10 December 2024: The Patiala House Court in Delhi has summoned veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra and two others in a cheating case related to the ‘Garam Dharam Dhaba’ franchise.

The summons follows a complaint filed by Delhi-based businessman Sushil Kumar, who alleged that he was misled into investing in the franchise. “The evidence on record prima facie indicates that the accused persons induced the complainant in furtherance of their common intent, and the ingredients of the offence of cheating are duly disclosed,” the judge stated in the summoning order issued on December 5.

The court directed the appearance of the accused, identified as Dharam Singh Deol (Dharmendra) and two co-accused, under charges of cheating, criminal conspiracy, and common intention as per Sections 420, 120B, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Additionally, the co-accused were summoned under Section 506 of the IPC for alleged criminal intimidation.

The judge noted that at this stage of summoning, a detailed examination of evidence is not required. However, documents presented in court, including a letter of intent bearing the Garam Dharam Dhaba logo, reportedly established the involvement of the co-accused in the transaction on behalf of Dharmendra.

The case has been listed for its next hearing on February 20, 2025.
