Patiala Student Wins Gold at Taekwondo Championship

Patiala, October 28, 2024 — Samandeep Kaur, a ninth-grade student from Shivalik Public School in Patiala, has won the gold medal in the under-44 kg category at the Taekwondo Championship, part of the 68th Punjab State Inter District School Games held in Jalandhar. This victory marks her first state-level competition, where she triumphed over 17 competitors.

The Punjab School Education Department organized the championship, which saw widespread participation from both boys and girls across various weight categories.

Samandeep’s hard work over the past year and a half paid off, culminating in her impressive performance at the event, the family said.

In addition to her recent success, Samandeep also secured a gold medal in district-level trials. Following her victory, she is set to represent Punjab in the upcoming National Competitions scheduled for November 9, 2024, in Bhopal.

Her father, Gurpreet Singh, expressed immense pride in her accomplishments, stating, “Samandeep has worked hard for these competitions. Girls are not less than boys in any way. She has made us and the Patiala district proud.” The family is excited for her next challenge as she prepares to compete on a national stage.
