MOHALI, June 16 — With just weeks left in his three-year term, Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) secretary Dilsher Khanna resigned from his post on Sunday, citing personal reasons. The move comes ahead of the PCA apex council elections scheduled for mid-July for the 2025–2028 term.
“Due to personal reasons, I hereby resign as honorary secretary of the Punjab Cricket Association with immediate effect,” Khanna wrote in his resignation letter addressed to the PCA president, council, and members.
The 35-year-old administrator reflected on the strides Punjab cricket made under his tenure, including hosting consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons in 2024 and 2025 at the New Chandigarh stadium. The successful conduct of these high-profile matches earned praise from across India’s cricketing circles.
Khanna also served as part of the Indian team management during the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies — a campaign that culminated in India lifting the trophy under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.
Within PCA, Khanna spearheaded significant reforms, most notably the launch of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League two seasons ago. His administrative acumen was further recognised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which inducted him into the Women’s Premier League (WPL) panel earlier this year.
While his resignation has created a vacancy in the PCA’s top ranks just ahead of the upcoming elections, there is speculation about Khanna’s potential future role within the BCCI setup.
For now, PCA officials remain tight-lipped on a possible interim appointment or whether Khanna will remain associated in an advisory capacity.
