PGIMER Celebrates Research Excellence at 11th Annual Event

Chandigarh, March 23 — The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) held its 11th annual research day celebration on Saturday, honoring 48 researchers for top-rated medical publications and recognizing 40 others for their groundbreaking contributions.

Around 400 of the best research publications from the past year were exhibited at the event.

Principal scientific adviser to the Government of India and chairperson of the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC), Arun Kumar Sood, addressed the gathering online as the chief guest. He outlined the roadmap for the 2047 Viksit Bharat vision, with a focus on cell and gene therapy and the effective use of artificial intelligence in healthcare.

A key highlight of the event was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between PGIMER and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, for research collaboration.

The partnership aims to bridge medical expertise with scientific research, fostering advancements in diagnostics, therapeutics, and patient care. The MoU was formally signed by Sundar Swaminathan, inaugural chair of the Department of Nephrology at IISc, and Dr Vivek Lal, director of PGIMER.

Top Research Awardees
In the medical specialties category, Ajay Kumar Duseja from the hepatology department secured the first prize. Among surgical specialties, Kajal Jain from anesthesiology and intensive care received the top honor.

For pre-clinical and para-clinical specialties, Lekha Saha from pharmacology won the first prize in the professors’ category. In the junior resident category, Dr Divakar P Reddy from internal medicine was awarded first place.

Among senior residents and senior demonstrators, Piyush Aggarwal from nuclear medicine claimed the top spot. In the PhD research scholars, pool officers, and research associates category, Savitesh Kushwaha from community medicine secured first place.

For systematic reviews with meta-analysis, Jogender Kumar from pediatric medicine emerged as the winner.
