PM Accuses Congress of Spreading ‘Votebank Virus’ Over Waqf Law

New Delhi, April 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing it of spreading a “votebank ka virus” by opposing the amended Waqf Act and treating Scheduled Castes and Tribes as “second-class citizens.”

Addressing a rally in Hisar after inaugurating a commercial flight to Ayodhya and laying the foundation of the new terminal at Maharaja Agrasen Airport, Modi said the Congress had “humiliated” Babasaheb Ambedkar and turned the Constitution into a tool for power.

“The Congress has become the destroyer of Constitutions. Babasaheb Ambedkar wanted dignity and equality for the poor, but Congress blocked that vision with its votebank politics,” Modi said.

He said the Waqf Board controls lakhs of hectares of land, but instead of helping the poor, “land mafias benefited.” The amended Waqf law, he added, would stop this “loot” and prevent the Board from acquiring tribal land.

“Poor Muslims and Pasmanda Muslims will now get their rights. This is real social justice,” he said.

Modi further accused the Congress of keeping SCs, STs, and OBCs away from banking and welfare schemes. “Today, SC/STs are among the largest beneficiaries of Jan Dhan accounts,” he said.

Backing the Uniform Civil Code, Modi claimed the Congress ignored the Constitution’s call for equality. “We implemented a secular civil code in Uttarakhand, but Congress still opposes it,” he said.

The PM also accused Congress of erasing Ambedkar’s legacy, reminding the crowd that the party had once contested elections against him and denied him recognition.

On infrastructure, Modi laid the foundation for a ₹410 crore terminal building at Hisar airport, promising completion in two years. The new air service will connect Hisar with Ayodhya twice a week, along with flights to Jammu, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Chandigarh.
