New Delhi, 11 November 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 200th anniversary celebrations of Shri Swaminarayan Temple in Vadtal, Gujarat, via video conferencing today. He emphasized the temple’s tradition of public service and highlighted the large turnout of devotees from India and abroad for the event.
Modi called for the promotion of “local for vocal,” stressing the need to support local products and crafts. He warned of divisive efforts targeting society, urging people to recognize and counter such conspiracies. The Prime Minister also praised the Swaminarayan community’s dedication to combating drug addiction, noting the crucial role saints and spiritual leaders play in steering youth away from substance abuse.
Reflecting on the ongoing centenary celebrations, Modi remarked on the spirit of service among the devotees, which he attributed to the teachings of Lord Swaminarayan. He described this commitment as vital to the nation’s progress, aligning it with the broader goal of a developed India.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the upcoming Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, set to begin on January 13. He highlighted its significance as a cultural and spiritual event, anticipating a massive influx of 40-50 crore devotees over the 45-day period.
