Chandigarh, April 12: To tighten surveillance along the border, the Punjab Police will install over 2,100 advanced CCTV cameras in villages forming the second line of defence against smugglers and anti-national activity.

DGP Gaurav Yadav announced the move during a night domination operation conducted in Amritsar. Around midnight, he inspected key checkpoints at Golden Gate, Amritsar Railway Station, Chheharta, and Gharinda in Attari, accompanied by senior officials including Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and DIG Border Range Satinder Singh.

Yadav said the state government has also sought central clearance to deploy an anti-drone system along the Pakistan border. The system, planned in coordination with BSF and central agencies, aims to curb the rising threat of drone-based drug and arms smuggling.

He added that under ‘Operation Satark,’ the police are cracking down on drug networks, with major arrests reported in the past month. On the alleged role of cops in trafficking, the DGP warned, “No one will be spared—whether civilian or police—if found involved.”
