Amritsar, 22 February— Police have dismantled a trans-border drug cartel and arrested four traffickers, recovering 5.06 kg of heroin in two separate cases.
The accused—Gurjant Singh, alias Kalu, of Bachiwind village (Amritsar), Jagjit Singh of Rania village (Amritsar), Sahil Kumar of Ghariyala village (Tarn Taran), and Rinku of Basti Dune Wali (Ferozepur)—were allegedly in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers using drones to transport narcotics across the border.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the cartel had been supplying drugs to various areas in Amritsar.
Two FIRs have been registered under the NDPS Act at the Cantonment and Sadar Amritsar police stations.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that acting on intelligence, police arrested Gurjant Kalu and Jagjit Singh from Mahal bypass, recovering 3.067 kg of heroin.
In another operation, CIA Staff-1 teams led by Inspector Amolakdeep Singh nabbed Sahil Kumar and Rinku with 2 kg of heroin.
Preliminary investigations revealed Jagjit Singh had returned from Italy and was already wanted in a January 14 heroin seizure case involving 5 kg. Rinku, meanwhile, was allegedly running a hawala network to transfer drug money to suppliers.
