Chandigarh/Amritsar, January 28: Punjab Police’s Special State Operation Cell (SSOC) has dismantled a Pakistan-ISI-backed narco-terror module operating under the command of USA-based Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passian and drug smuggler Sarwan Bhola.
Two members of the group, Bagga Singh from Sirsa, Haryana, and Pushkaran Singh alias Sagar from Amarkot, Amritsar, have been arrested in connection with a grenade attack on the Gumtala Police Post, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced on Tuesday.
Police recovered a hand grenade, two sophisticated pistols, and ammunition during the operation.
The arrested suspects are believed to have been acting under instructions from the USA-based handlers to execute terror activities in Punjab, including the January 9 attack claimed by the terror group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
“Investigations reveal Bagga Singh, a relative of Sarwan Bhola, is directly linked to the notorious drug smuggler Ranjit Singh alias Cheeta, currently jailed in the 532 kg heroin case,” DGP Yadav said.
Bhola, also implicated in the same case and carrying a ₹2 lakh bounty from the National Investigation Agency, is believed to be coordinating terror and drug operations from abroad.
AIG SSOC Amritsar Sukhminder Singh Mann shared that intelligence-led operations led to the arrests in Sirsa and Amritsar, marking a breakthrough in the effort to neutralize the network.
“We are actively working to nab other module members and uncover their prior activities,” he said.
The operation forms part of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directive to establish Punjab as a secure state. Police investigations continue to track the module’s activities, aiming to disrupt its domestic and international links.
