Ropar, Sept 27: A fifteen-member police team from Anandpur Sahib conducted a early-morning search operation at the Ludhiana residence of former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee member Amarjit Singh Chawla in connection with an ongoing sexual assault case. According to official reports, Chawla was not present at his Model Town Extension home when law enforcement personnel arrived around 8:30 AM. The raiding party, which included female officers and senior officials, questioned Chawla’s wife and family members present at the location before departing without interacting with assembled media.
The investigative action stems from a First Information Report registered at the Anandpur Sahib police station on August 21 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita concerning rape, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation. The complaint filed by a resident of Punjab’s Malwa region alleges that the former religious representative established contact under false pretences and exploited her across multiple instances between February and August, including at a pilgrim guest house in Anandpur Sahib. Judicial authorities confirmed that the complainant has formally recorded her statement before a magistrate.
The case has attracted significant attention across regional social and religious bodies. Chawla has maintained his innocence regarding the charges, asserting in a public video statement that the allegations are fabricated as part of a deliberate conspiracy against him and expressing confidence that the ongoing probe will clear his name.
