Chandigarh, May 23: The Punjab Police successfully dismantled a widespread cyber terror ring following the arrest of its primary operative in West Bengal, Aam Aadmi Party state chief spokesperson and lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal announced Friday.
The 30-year-old suspect allegedly managed an intricate network with active links spanning Pakistan and Bangladesh. Speaking to reporters during a press conference in Amritsar, Dhaliwal noted that the criminal syndicate specialized in executing digital sabotage and panic campaigns, deploying coordinated email and WhatsApp dispatches to issue fabricated bomb threats across northern states including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh.
The targeted threat campaign directly compromised high-profile locations in Punjab, including the State Secretariat, the Vidhan Sabha, and Sri Darbar Sahib.
“The Aam Aadmi Party government led by Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann has remained committed to ensuring that anyone attempting to spread terror, carry out shootings, explosions, or disturb the atmosphere of the state in any manner will not be spared,” Dhaliwal said.
Dhaliwal maintained that investigating digital extremism presents a steeper hurdle than traditional security operations, given that perpetrators can leverage foreign servers from locations like Canada or the United States to camouflage their activities. He assured local residents that the state remains fully prepared to secure regional safety and that public panic is unnecessary.
Shifting focus to broader border security dynamics, the lawmaker urged federal authorities to reinforce defense lines against drone-assisted smuggling along the international perimeter.
“Amid rising threat of drugs and drones, Dhaliwal urges Centre to equip BSF troops on Punjab border with modern technology,” he stated, adding that the 500-kilometer border requires immediate technological upgrades.
