Chandigarh/Jalandhar, December 18, 2024: Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav announced that Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has returned seized items worth more than ₹13 crore to their rightful owners.
The handover occurred during a special program, Arpan Samagam, held at Police Lines, Jalandhar, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Swapan Sharma.
DGP Yadav revealed that 413 vehicles, 85 mobile phones, jewellery, and various household items linked to 583 cases registered in the city last year were handed back to the original owners.
Besides, 100 lost smartphones valued at ₹20 lakh were recovered using the Central Equipment Identification Register (CEIR) portal and returned.
According to CP Swapan Sharma, the initiative aims to enhance public confidence in law enforcement by ensuring citizens recover their belongings. These recovered items were part of dacoities or other criminal cases.
The program involved efforts from 14 Station House Officers (SHOs) from various areas, including the Mahila Thana SHO, whose teams played a key role in locating and returning the goods.
Recipients praised the police for their diligence and transparency in the process.
