Amritsar, 05 December 2024: In a major drug bust, Punjab Police has intensified its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking by arresting three drug smugglers and seizing 5 kilograms of heroin and drug money worth Rs 4.45 lakh from the accused.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav confirmed the operation, identifying the arrested smugglers as Husanpreet Singh from Prime City, Cheharta, Karandeep Singh alias Manna from Attari Mandi, and Maninder Singh from Attari Mandi, all in Amritsar district. The police also recovered two motorcycles—a Honda Activa (PB 02 DK 8780) and a Hero Deluxe HF (PB 02 E 5854)—from the accused.

According to the police, Karandeep Singh and Maninder Singh were involved in trafficking heroin, part of a larger consignment recently dropped by drone from Pakistani smugglers.

The consignment was supposed to be delivered to Husanpreet Singh. Based on a tip-off, the police set up a barricade on the Amritsar-Attari Road near Punjabi Bagh Resort, where they intercepted the accused and seized the drugs.

DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the police had launched an investigation into the accused’s prior criminal connections.

A case has been registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with additional charges under Section 27-A of the NDPS Act.
