CHANDIGARH, Feb 21 — Police deployed water cannons on Saturday to disperse Youth Congress workers as they attempted to march toward the Chandigarh BJP office in Sector 33. The demonstration was organized to protest the central government’s economic and social policies, which the group labeled as “anti-youth” and “anti-democratic.”

The march, led by Chandigarh Pradesh Congress president HS Lucky and Youth Congress state president Deepak Lubana, was halted by security forces at a barricade. A scuffle broke out when activists tried to push past the blockade to reach the party headquarters, leading the police to use high-pressure water jets to break up the crowd.

“The BJP government’s dictatorship will no longer be tolerated,” HS Lucky stated during the protest. He affirmed that police action would not dampen the spirit of the workers and accused the government of avoiding critical public issues.

Protesters, seen carrying party flags and banners, voiced grievances regarding rising inflation and the lack of job opportunities. Deepak Lubana added that the youth of the country are currently struggling with record unemployment. The leaders maintained that the central administration has weakened democratic institutions and betrayed the interests of the younger generation.
