Bankipur, August 3: Jan Suraaj Party candidate Prashant Kishor built an unassailable lead of 15,864 votes over his nearest rival, BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha, as counting progressed through the final rounds of the Bankipur Assembly by-election on Monday. The electoral debutant expanded his lead consistently across counting rounds at the A N College center in Patna, positioning his party for a significant victory in the capital constituency.
The official tally after twenty-six rounds showed Prashant Kishor securing 53,566 votes, while BJP’s Neeraj Kumar Sinha garnered 37,702 votes. RJD candidate Rekha Gupta trailed in third place with 11,933 votes.
Following the trend lines, Jan Suraaj Party supporters gathered outside the counting venue and party headquarters to celebrate the momentum. Party workers declared that the early trends reflect popular trust in their grassroots political movement, distributing sweets and gathering in large numbers across Patna.
Addressing media inquiries as counting continued, Bihar state ministers Shrawon Kumar and Sunil Kumar stated that official procedures were still ongoing. The ministers maintained that political observers and party representatives should await the final declaration from election authorities before drawing formal conclusions.
The by-election was triggered following the resignation of former representative Nitin Nabin upon his elevation to the Rajya Sabha. The contest saw a voter turnout of 34.30 percent during polling on July 30, with over 1.3 lakh citizens exercising their franchise across the urban constituency.
