Chandigarh, August 22: The Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) elections for 2025 will be held on September 3, university authorities announced on Friday. With the schedule declared, the model code of conduct has come into effect across the campus.
According to officials, voter strength is expected to remain close to last year’s numbers despite ongoing admissions. “The numbers of voters are yet to be ascertained considering the ongoing admission, but it’s most likely to remain more or less the same,” said the Dean of Student Welfare (DSW).
In 2024, Panjab University had 15,897 registered voters, of whom 10,479 cast their ballots. The University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) and the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) together accounted for the largest chunk of votes, with 2,518 and 1,950 student voters respectively. The Department of Law also had a strong base of 1,100 voters.
Other departments with significant vote strength included Chemical Engineering and Technology (624), Dental Sciences (492), University Business School (477), University Institute of Applied Management (435), University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (421), Physics (415), Chemistry (409), and the University Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism (402).
The stakes remain high after last year’s historic outcome, when Anurag Dalal became the first independent candidate to win the PUCSC presidential election. Dalal, who floated the Democratic Students’ Front (DSF) just days before polling, secured 3,433 votes—defeating Prince Chaudhary of Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) by 303 votes.
Other winners in 2024 included Archit Garg of NSUI as Vice President with 3,631 votes, defeating Sath’s Karanpreet Singh by 1,035 votes; Vineet Yadav of INSO as Secretary with 3,298 votes; and Jasvinder Rana of ABVP as Joint Secretary, who won with 3,489 votes.
