Chandigarh, March 30 — Punjab Advocate General (AG) Gurminder Singh Garry has resigned from his post, citing personal reasons, according to sources.
He has reportedly submitted his resignation to the government, though there is no official confirmation or statement from the AG yet.
Gurminder Singh Garry took over as AG in October 2023 following the resignation of senior advocate Vinod Ghai, who also stepped down for personal reasons.
The resignation comes shortly after the Punjab government sought the resignation of all 232 law officers in February as part of a restructuring effort aimed at boosting efficiency.
With Garry’s departure, the government will now need to appoint a new Advocate General.
This marks the fifth resignation from the AG post in Punjab in the last two years, highlighting ongoing instability in the state’s legal leadership. One of the previous AGs served for only a month before stepping down.
