Chandigarh: A delegation representing 25 farmer organizations under the United Kisan Morcha met with senior Punjab government representatives at Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh to address key agricultural issues. Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian and Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh led the government panel alongside senior administrative officials during the scheduled session. The discussion comes as farmer unions continue their sit-in at the Chandigarh border, seeking executive and legislative action on regional matters, including the review of state river water agreements.
Farmer representative Raminder Singh Patiala affirmed that the delegation departed from the protest site to participate in the formal dialogue. Union leaders noted that while several overarching policy demands fall under federal purview, specific issues—such as passing a state assembly resolution on water agreements—remain within the jurisdiction of the Punjab government. Senior police and administrative officials, including DIG Nanak Singh, facilitated the coordination between the state leadership and union representatives. State officials maintained that open channels of communication remain open to review reasonable demands and ensure public order during peaceful demonstrations.
