SANGRUR, May 10 — Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday initiated a major household support program titled ‘Meri Rasoi Yojna,’ aimed at providing free nutritional food kits to approximately 40 lakh low-income and backward families across the state. During a launch event in village Bhalwan, Mann stated that the initiative serves as a direct intervention to alleviate the financial pressure on struggling households caused by rising food costs.
The Chief Minister asserted that the kits, which include items such as sugar, pulses, iodized salt, turmeric, and mustard oil, will be distributed every three months. He maintained that providing access to these essentials is a critical step in ensuring that children do not suffer from malnutrition, which he noted is vital for their educational and physical development. Mann stated that while previous administrations offered limited assistance, his government seeks to ensure that every kitchen in Punjab remains fully functional.
The Chief Minister also discussed broader welfare reforms, noting that nearly 90 percent of Punjab households now benefit from zero-cost electricity. He maintained that the savings from these utility bills allow families to reinvest in their quality of life. Additionally, Mann touched upon infrastructure modernization, stating that the state is moving rapidly toward an underground power grid to eliminate overhead poles.
Addressing governance and legal matters, Mann affirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting religious sanctity through new, stringent laws against sacrilege. He stated that the legislation, which includes heavy penalties and life imprisonment, has received widespread support from the community. The Chief Minister declared that his government remains focused on transparently utilizing public funds for schools, hospitals, and social welfare.
