Chandigarh, Jan 13: The Punjab Government has intensified its campaign against administrative misconduct with the dismissal of a high-ranking finance official and the initiation of proceedings against 22 other employees.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated on Tuesday that the action underscores a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, noting that the administration will spare no one regardless of their professional standing.
The crackdown originated from complaints filed in mid-2022 regarding four employees within the Treasury and Accounts Branch and various district offices. Following an immediate suspension, the Vigilance Bureau conducted an independent investigation that concluded in December 2025.
This probe resulted in the dismissal of a Superintendent Grade-2 and major punishments for three other staff members under service rules.
“The moment complaints were received, the department acted without delay,” Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said.
He mentioned that the decisive action taken against these individuals reflects the government’s commitment to cleaning up the administrative system.
Further investigation into the bank accounts of the initial four accused revealed suspicious financial transactions involving 22 additional officers.
Minister Cheema noted that a retired judge was appointed to oversee the inquiry into these transactions to ensure complete transparency. Based on those findings, formal departmental action has now been initiated against all 22 officials.
“The Punjab Government is committed to providing a transparent, responsible, and clean administration to the people of the state,” Minister Cheema said.
He noted that the ongoing efforts send a clear message that illegal practices and misconduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
