Chandigarh, 29 November 24 – The Punjab Mid-Day Meal Society has issued a strict directive to address complaints of irregularities in the mid-day meal scheme provided to government school students up to Class 8. These include lapses in adhering to the weekly menu, skipping seasonal fruits, and instances of fake attendance to inflate meal claims.

In a letter to all District Education Officers, the society emphasized the need for timely and nutritious meals as per the prescribed menu. It warned that any violation would result in strict action, holding the school head accountable.

The society reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards fake attendance and substandard food quality, directing school heads to ensure compliance. The weekly menu includes dal, rice, seasonal vegetables, rajma, and kheer, among other items, with seasonal fruits served twice a week.

Schools found neglecting these standards risk serious consequences as the government moves to safeguard students’ health and uphold the integrity of the scheme.
