CHANDIGARH, July 24 — The Punjab government has formed three dedicated committees for the textile sector to gather structured suggestions aimed at refining its industrial policy and improving ease of doing business, state industry and commerce minister Sanjeev Arora announced Wednesday.
These committees will focus on the spinning and weaving, apparels, and dyeing and finishing sectors respectively, and are part of a larger initiative by the government to create 22 sector-specific panels for inclusive policy formulation.
SP Oswal of Vardhman Textiles has been appointed chairman of the spinning and weaving sector committee, while Sandeep Jain of Monte Carlo Fashions Limited, Ludhiana, will head the apparels panel. Rajnish Gupta of Bala Ji Dyeing will lead the committee focused on the dyeing and finishing segment. The additional deputy commissioner (general), Ludhiana, has been designated as the member secretary to coordinate all three committees.
“These committees will provide tailored recommendations for each sector, taking into account Punjab’s industrial strengths and both its structural and fiscal landscape,” Arora told reporters at a press conference.
He said the government expects the committees to submit their written recommendations by October 1, 2025. “Each panel has been asked to study policies of other leading states and frame a best-in-class policy suited to Punjab’s ecosystem,” the minister said.
The initiative follows the state cabinet’s July 17 decision to set up 22 sectoral committees to ensure focused, collaborative engagement with industry stakeholders. Apart from textiles, upcoming committees will address sectors such as IT, auto components, sports and leather goods, food processing, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and tourism, among others.
Officials said the recommendations will cover both fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to help craft a comprehensive policy aimed at accelerating industrial growth and investment in the state.
