Mohali, March 28: Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Thursday led an anti-drug Jan Yatra in Kharar, urging society to unite against the menace. Organized by the Shri Ram Mandir Ajj Sarovar Vikas Samiti, the march aimed to promote awareness and support the Punjab government’s campaign against drugs.
Flagging off the yatra from Shri Ram Bhawan, Kataria invoked Punjab’s legacy of valour and sacrifice, referencing the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh’s sons, Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh. He warned of external forces trying to weaken the community and called on Punjabis to resist them. “Punjab has no place for drugs,” he said, stressing the need for collective action.
Kataria praised the Punjab government’s War Against Drugs campaign, claiming it is showing results. He urged citizens to turn the drive into a mass movement, adding that the state has implemented the highest punishment under the NDPS Act to crack down on drug peddling.
Students and representatives from religious and social organisations joined the march. The Shri Ram Mandir Ajj Sarovar Vikas Samiti also hosted a felicitation ceremony at Shri Ram Bhawan to honour the governor.
Kataria thanked the mandir committee for the opportunity to visit Ajj Sarovar and commended its efforts to preserve the sacred site.
