Amritsar/Chandigarh: The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has taken decisive action against stubble burning violations, imposing fines and making red entries in response to 199 recorded incidents across the state.
The government has enforced an environmental compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh in 52 cases, according to the reports.
As part of its enforcement efforts, PPCB field teams visited 107 sites, documenting violations and initiating appropriate actions.
By Tuesday evening, authorities had registered five FIRs under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for disobedience to public orders, along with 30 red entries in the revenue records of offending farmers.
The report from the PPCB mentioned the seriousness of the measures being taken to enforce the complete ban on burning crop residue.
Moreover, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in the National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas has deployed Flying Squads to monitor incidents of paddy stubble burning in Haryana and Punjab, and the Flying Squads will report daily on paddy stubble burning to the concerned authorities at the district level appointed by the respective State government.
