Amritsar, 1 March 2025 — Amritsar police arrested two drug smugglers and seized 4 kg of heroin in a major crackdown on trans-border smuggling under ‘Yudh Nashia Virudh’, Punjab’s anti-drug campaign, officials said on Saturday.
The accused, Karanpal Singh (37) and Ranjit Singh (36), both from Khemkaran, Tarn Taran, were caught during a special operation on Jhabal Road, Amritsar. Police also impounded their motorcycle, said Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a Pakistan-based smuggler used drones in the Ferozepur sector to drop drug consignments, Yadav said, adding that further probes are underway to establish the supply chain.
Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said a police team led by CIA-1 Inspector Amolakdeep Singh and CIA-2 SI Ravi Kumar, acting on intelligence inputs, apprehended the accused and recovered heroin from them.
“The accused were distributing drugs to peddlers across Punjab. A detailed probe is in progress to uncover the entire network of suppliers, dealers, and buyers,” Bhullar said.
An FIR (No. 49) has been registered at Islamabad Police Station, Amritsar, under Section 21(C) of the NDPS Act.
