Chandigarh, Dec. 23 — Punjab Police on Monday outlined what it described as major gains in law and order during 2025, citing effective action against drugs, gangsters and cybercrime, along with improved conviction rates.
The Director General of Police said the force successfully maintained peace during the year and responded to all terror-related incidents reported in the state.
“Ensuring security and harmony was our top priority, and the force remained prepared throughout the year,” the DGP said.
A major thrust was placed on the anti-narcotics drive Yudh Nashiyan Virudh. Police registered around 30,000 cases and arrested nearly 40,000 people, recovering more than 2,000 kg of heroin. The NDPS conviction rate reached 88%, the highest among all states, officials said.
The year also saw intensified action against organised crime. Police dismantled 416 criminal modules and arrested 992 gangsters, which officials said led to a visible decline in serious crimes.
DGP also said the gangsters working from foreign soils were deported with the help of central operations.
Murder cases dropped by 8.7%, kidnapping and abduction by 10.6%, snatching by 19.6% and theft by over 34%.
Technology-driven policing expanded during the year. The Safe Punjab Helpline crossed the 10,000-FIR mark, while PAIS 2.0 was rolled out with voice analysis tools to strengthen investigations.
In cybercrime cases, Punjab Police secured Rs 80 crore as lien from fraud proceeds totaling Rs 418.29 crore, placing the state fourth in India in terms of recovery.
“The results reflect sustained efforts across enforcement, investigation and technology,” the DGP said, reiterating that Punjab Police would continue working to keep the state safe.
Stuble burning was also curbed, he added.
Three districts were also covered under anti-drone system, he said further.
