Chandigarh, February 4: Punjab Labour Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond has stated that 57,75,402 workers have been registered on the e-Shram portal, launched by the Government of India for unorganized workers.

During a two-day conference of Labour Ministers and Labour Secretaries in New Delhi, he proposed providing medical insurance, stipends for workers’ children, and pension benefits after retirement.

Sond noted that under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, the Punjab Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has introduced reforms, including simplifying registration forms and translating Form No. 27 into Punjabi for construction workers’ convenience.

“If an application faces objections, workers now receive SMS notifications, and Labour Inspectors are required to process registrations and renewals within 14 days.”

The welfare board has also simplified terms and conditions for various schemes, including the Stipend Scheme, LTC Scheme, and Shagun Scheme.

A total of ₹31.71 crore has been disbursed to 19,055 workers under welfare schemes in the 2024-25 financial year, with ₹19.53 crore allocated to construction workers.

Sond mentioned that last year, the Punjab Labour Welfare Board distributed ₹15.36 crore among 5,980 beneficiaries.

Help desks have been set up in Assistant Labour Commissioners’ and Labour Officers’ offices to assist workers in resolving registration and renewal objections.
