Chandigarh, 4 February 2025: Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said Tuesday that authorities would adopt a friendly approach toward immigrants arriving at Amritsar airport on Wednesday after being deported from the US.

“However, criminal antecedents, if any, would be checked and due action taken,” he said.

Speaking to the media about the special flight carrying over 200 deported individuals, Yadav said police were coordinating with central agencies but had not yet received details about the identities or legal cases of those returning.

Police officials said teams had been assigned to gather information from each deportee regarding their history of illegal immigration. “These people can provide real inputs about the illegal immigration network, including donkey routes and how travel agents fleece people,” an official said.

In addition to the police, central agencies are expected to question and record statements from the deportees upon their arrival at Amritsar airport at 8 am.
