Chandigarh, August 14: The Punjab Government has modified its employee welfare guidelines to remove the traditional eighteen-year age restriction on Child Care Leave for women government employees caring for children with hundred percent disabilities. Under the revised instructions issued by the Department of Personnel, eligible mothers can continue accessing leave provisions regardless of the child’s age, ensuring sustained caregiving support.
The policy relaxation specifically covers four identified categories, including cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disability, and multiple disabilities. Official representatives stated that the amendment updates the earlier framework established in December 2011 to better address long-term family requirements.
The revised provisions recognise that individuals with severe medical conditions require ongoing attention and parental presence well past adulthood, officials affirmed, adding that administrative departments have been instructed to facilitate smooth processing for eligible applicants.
Government departments across the state have been directed to implement the updated instructions immediately to provide meaningful flexibility to working women managing long-term care duties.
