Chandigarh, March 13 – Punjab has become the first state to send over 300 teachers and principals abroad for advanced training, aiming to enhance the quality of education in government schools.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, along with Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, flagged off the seventh batch of 36 principals on Saturday for a training program at the Principals Academy in Singapore from March 9-15.

Earlier, six batches of 198 principals and education officers underwent a five-day Leadership Development Programme in Singapore, while 72 primary teachers received training in Turku, Finland.

Besides, three batches of 152 headmasters and education officers attended programs at IIM Ahmedabad.

“These training programs expose teachers to modern global teaching practices, which they later implement in classrooms, benefiting both students and colleagues,” an official statement said.

Transforming Education in Punjab

The initiative aligns with CM Mann’s vision of strengthening the education system by enhancing teachers’ skills. “The competence of teachers directly impacts students’ learning and school performance. Exposure visits have created systemic improvements in motivation, teaching methodologies, and learning outcomes,” the statement added.

Moving forward, the state plans to expand training opportunities in countries like Switzerland, Singapore, and Finland, as well as institutions such as Harvard and Oxford—all funded by the government.
