Sri Muktsar Sahib, 28 October 2024: With Diwali festivities approaching, markets in Punjab are abuzz with activity, while the state government is taking crucial steps to limit pollution from firecrackers. In line with Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal guidelines, District Magistrate Rajesh Tripathi of Sri Muktsar Sahib has imposed regulated timings for fireworks on key festivals, invoking Section-163 of the Indian Civil Protection Act 2023. Strict penalties will be enforced for violations.
As per the directive, firecrackers on Diwali (31 October 2024) are allowed from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. For Gurpurab on 15 November, fireworks are permitted from 4:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Additionally, on Christmas, fireworks are restricted to 11:55 p.m. on 25 December to 12:30 a.m. on 26 December. Similarly, for New Year’s celebrations on 31 December and 1 January, firecrackers can only be set off between 11:55 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
