CHANDIGARH, April 25:— The Punjab government is set to establish a Project Management Unit (PMU) aimed at delivering all citizen-centric services through a single online portal, enhancing efficiency and transparency, announced Aman Arora, Minister of Good Governance and Information Technology, on Friday.
The decision was made during the 21st meeting of the Board of Governors (BoGs) of the Punjab State e-Governance Society (PSeGS).
The primary goal of the PMU is to consolidate all offline government services onto a unified online platform, enabling citizens to apply for services at their convenience, anytime and from any location.
“The main objective of the PMU is to bring all the offline services onto a unified online portal, enabling citizens to apply anytime, from anywhere,” stated Arora after the meeting.
The new portal will also allow applicants to monitor the progress of their applications. Furthermore, it will facilitate the tracking of pending services at the head office level, fostering greater accountability and ensuring timely resolutions.
According to Arora, the PMU will be instrumental in driving the complete digitization and implementation of all services across various government departments that fall under the purview of the Punjab Transparency and Accountability in Public Service Delivery Act.
“The PMU would play a pivotal role in driving end-to-end digitisation and implementation of all the services of various government departments notified under the Punjab Transparency and Accountability in Public Service Delivery Act,” Arora affirmed.
The PMU will aid in integrating departmental services with the existing Punjab e-Sewa portal. Arora noted that a total of 846 services are currently notified under the aforementioned Act. Of these, only 436 services are accessible through 541 Sewa Kendras. Notably, 406 of these services are already being delivered through the “Bhagwant Mann Sarkar Tuhade Dwaar” initiative, allowing citizens to access them by calling the helpline number 1076 from their homes.
To ensure all notified services are available through a single point of contact or via doorstep delivery, the remaining services will be integrated into the online platform.
“To provide all services through a single point of contact or door step delivery, the remaining notified services would be integrated to ensure online accessibility,” Arora added.
In a related development, the BoG also resolved to conduct a comprehensive performance and impact audit of all Sewa Kendras operating throughout Punjab.
