MOGA, July 5 — Dr Aniljeet Kamboj, father of Punjabi film actress Tania, was critically injured in a brazen gun attack inside his private clinic in Kot Ise Khan town on Friday afternoon, prompting widespread concern and outrage across Punjab.
According to eyewitnesses, two armed men entered Harbans Nursing Home posing as patients and opened fire on Dr Kamboj, hitting him twice in the back. The clinic is located barely 100 metres from the local police station. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Dr Kamboj was rushed to a private hospital in Moga, where he is currently on ventilator support. His condition is described as critical.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Gandhi, who visited the site shortly after the incident, confirmed the attack occurred around 1 PM near the town’s main intersection. “We have formed several teams to investigate the matter. Leads are being pursued and we are confident the culprits will be apprehended soon,” said Gandhi.
Preliminary police findings revealed that Dr Kamboj had faced extortion threats nearly two years ago, following which a security detail had been assigned. However, with no fresh threats reported, the security was later withdrawn.
No arrests have been made so far, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Actress Tania took to Instagram shortly after the news broke, requesting privacy for her family during what she described as a deeply painful and uncertain time. “On behalf of Tania and her family, we want to share that this is an extremely critical and emotional time for her and her family. We kindly request the media to respect their privacy and give them the space they need to process this,” the statement read.
She also appealed to the public and media to avoid speculation. “We urge everyone to be sensitive and refrain from creating stories around the situation. Thank you for your understanding and support,” she said.
As investigations continue, the incident has sparked outrage among residents over the apparent lapse in security near a police station, and the boldness with which the assailants executed the attack in broad daylight.
