Chandigarh, Jan 30: Minimum temperatures across Punjab and Haryana continued to hover near or above expected levels this Friday, providing a brief reprieve from the typical winter chill.
According to data released by the Meteorological Department, several districts in Punjab saw mercury levels stay well above the normal range for this time of year, while Haryana maintained a steady seasonal average.
The joint capital, Chandigarh, reported a minimum temperature of 8.8 degrees Celsius, which officials noted was one degree higher than the usual limit. While most areas enjoyed these moderated conditions, some pockets experienced more traditional winter lows. “Bathinda recorded the lowest temperature in the region at 5.5 degrees Celsius,” a weather official mentioned while detailing the overnight data.
Amritsar saw a significant departure from the norm, with the mercury settling at 8.2 degrees Celsius, marking a three-notch increase above the average. Ludhiana and Patiala followed a similar trend, recording lows of 10.2 degrees and 8.8 degrees Celsius, respectively. Ferozepur also remained relatively mild with a minimum of 8 degrees Celsius.
In Haryana, the weather pattern stayed largely consistent with the seasonal calendar. Ambala saw a low of 9.8 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees above the average. Other major towns including Hisar, Karnal, and Rohtak saw the mercury dip to 7.2 degrees, 7.7 degrees, and 7.8 degrees Celsius, respectively, ensuring that the cold remained within expected parameters.
