Chandigarh, December 23, 2024: The weather in Haryana underwent a significant shift on Monday morning, marking a change in temperature and the arrival of rainfall across multiple regions. The rain began in Hisar around 6 am, followed by other areas like Rohtak.
This weather change is expected to bring much-needed relief to the region’s crops, particularly mustard and wheat, which will benefit from the precipitation in the latter half of December.
The rain that arrived in the morning is also expected to be accompanied by fog, which had not been present earlier.
The fog is likely to increase after the rain, contributing to a sharp drop in temperature. Meteorological experts predict that the fog will grow more intense as the day progresses, affecting the temperature further.
The change in weather is attributed to the influence of a Western Disturbance that became active on Sunday night.
This atmospheric condition caused a low-pressure area to form over South Punjab and North Rajasthan, leading to moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea that moved toward Haryana.
As a result, light rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms have been forecast for up to 50 percent of the areas across Haryana, NCR, and Delhi on Monday.
In addition to rain, the Meteorological Department has warned that a hailstorm may occur at one or two locations in Haryana. This condition is expected to persist until Tuesday morning, with the Western Disturbance continuing to affect the region.
The impact of this weather system is not expected to stop with the current spell of rain. A second Western Disturbance is forecast to become active by December 26.
While this system will affect primarily the northern and southern regions of Haryana, its influence is expected to cause significant snowfall in the northern hilly areas. With these disturbances bringing in cooler air, the state is bracing for a sharp drop in temperatures, contributing to a severe cold wave in the coming days.
Overall, the rain and the weather changes come as a relief to local farmers, particularly those engaged in mustard and wheat cultivation, who will see improved growth conditions as a result of the moisture provided by the rain.
However, the combination of rain, fog, and low temperatures in the coming days may present challenges for other sectors in the region.
