CHANDIGARH, May 8 — Senior advocate Rakesh Gupta has been appointed as the new chairman of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, according to an announcement made this week.

Joining him in key leadership roles are Amit Rana, Senior Deputy Advocate General of Punjab, who has been named vice-chairman, and senior advocate Surender Dutt Sharma, who will serve as honorary secretary.

Members of the legal fraternity across Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana—including presidents and secretaries of various Bar associations—extended their congratulations and support to the newly appointed office-bearers.

“We are committed to ensuring that the Bar Council functions in a transparent, effective, and advocate-centric manner,” Gupta said in a statement following his appointment.

Vice-chairman Amit Rana said the new leadership team is focused on improving conditions for legal professionals.

“Together we will continue to work for the resolution of advocates’ issues and the protection of their rights,” he said.

Honorary secretary Sharma noted that one of their top administrative priorities would be streamlining internal processes.

“Our priority will be to ensure the verification process is completed smoothly and that all administrative services are delivered to advocates promptly and efficiently,” he said.

The appointments come at a time when advocates across the region are pushing for better support and representation from their governing bodies.
