Chandigarh, March 29: A CBI court in Chandigarh acquitted retired Justice Nirmal Yadav and three others in the 2008 “cash at judge’s door” case, citing the prosecution’s failure to prove charges.
The other acquitted individuals include hotelier Ravinder Singh, Rajiv Gupta, and Nirmal Singh.
The case stemmed from the mistaken delivery of ₹15 lakh to the residence of Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Nirmaljit Kaur, allegedly intended for Justice Yadav.
The CBI claimed the cash was sent by Ravinder Singh through former Haryana Additional Advocate General Sanjiv Bansal, who died during the trial.
The court found the prosecution’s evidence insufficient, despite examining 69 witnesses and allowing 12 more.
After the acquittal, Justice Yadav said the verdict affirmed her faith in the judiciary and was a victory for the truth.
