Panchkula, Jan 11: A 85-year-old retired Army officer died after being struck by an untraceable vehicle while walking near his residence in Panchkula on Friday evening, Police said on Sunday.
Lieutenant General Kulwant Singh Mann was rushed to the Command Hospital in Chandimandir following the collision, but he later succumbed to his injuries. Police have registered a case against the unknown driver and are currently scouring the area for leads.
“We are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas, as the stretch where the accident occurred does not have CCTV cameras,” said Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder, Acting SHO of Mansa Devi Complex (MDC).
The veteran’s family is currently awaiting the arrival of his son from abroad before the post-mortem examination is conducted. Panchkula ACP Dinesh Kumar confirmed that legal proceedings are underway and “further investigations are on” to identify the vehicle involved in the fatal crash.
