Mumbai: Actor-politician Govinda suffered a bullet injury to his leg on Tuesday after his revolver accidentally went off at his Mumbai residence while he was preparing to leave for the airport, according to police.

Govinda, 60, later issued a statement assuring his fans that doctors had removed the bullet and that he was recovering, attributing his well-being to his fans’ affection and God’s blessings.

According to a Mumbai police official, the actor, who was hospitalized after the incident, is now out of danger and recuperating at home.

Meanwhile, Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha, explained that the accident occurred at around 4:45 a.m. as the actor was about to leave for the airport to catch a 6 a.m. flight to Kolkata for a show.

“While keeping his licensed revolver in the cupboard, the trigger was accidentally pushed, causing the gun to misfire and a bullet to strike his leg,” police confirmed.

Govind Arun Ahuja, is a popular actor, comedian, dancer, and singer with over 165 Hindi films to his credit.

In March, he re-entered politics by joining the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, nearly two decades after stepping away from politics. Govinda had previously won the 2004 Lok Sabha election from Mumbai North on a Congress ticket before exiting politics in 2008.
