Ludhiana, August 13: Three Aam Aadmi Party leaders lost their lives while two others managed a narrow escape when their car went out of control and plunged into a roadside pond near Bassian village early Thursday morning. Emergency rescue teams and local police rushed to the site shortly after receiving information, retrieving the bodies of AAP leaders Balkar Singh, Vishal, and Sandeep from the submerged vehicle.

The tragedy took place around 1:15 am in the Raikot area, approximately 12 kilometers from Jagraon, as the five occupants were traveling together from Nakodar toward Dirba. While three occupants died at the scene, the remaining two individuals managed to free themselves from the submerged car and reach safety.

“Three persons died in the crash, while two others survived the incident,” Sadar Raikot SHO Hira Singh affirmed while detailing the preliminary findings of the emergency response team.

Initial inquiries suggest the deceased leaders were close associates of Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. Local police authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the crash, including verifying whether another vehicle was involved prior to the car veering into the water body.
