Pratapgarh, August 6: Six members of a family died in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district early Thursday after the roof of a nearly century-old house collapsed while they were asleep.
Emergency teams including police and fire personnel rushed to Mahuli village under the Kotwali police station area around 2 am, pulling seven victims from the debris and transferring them to the district hospital.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the collapse was caused by the structural failure of an ageing roof, which was further weakened by continuous heavy rainfall,” stated District Magistrate Abhishek Pandey, adding that the lone survivor remains under clinical observation in stable condition.
State authorities disbursed financial relief totaling ₹26.20 lakh to the next of kin following instructions from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Administration officials affirmed that a comprehensive structural audit of dilapidated buildings across the district will be conducted to identify unsafe habitations and prevent similar incidents.
