Bengaluru, August 8: State regulatory officials confiscated and destroyed massive quantities of spoiled meats, expired dairy, and contaminated produce following an extensive inspection campaign targeting high-end hospitality venues across the city.
The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration dispatched 30 dedicated teams to audit 26 three-star and five-star properties across all municipal zones. Officers logged wide-ranging non-compliance issues under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including fungal growth on vegetables, misbranded goods, improper product labeling, and failure to maintain proper segregation between vegetarian and non-vegetarian stock.
Major seizures included 76 kg of meat, 200 kg of vegetables, and 32 liters of expired milk at The Lalit Ashok (Annex South), alongside 105 kg of expired meats and produce at Radisson Blu (The Atria). Substantial quantities of unsafe meat were also confiscated from Taj Yeshwantpur, Shangri-La Bengaluru, and Four Seasons Hotel, while expired bakery inventory was destroyed at Vivanta Bengaluru Whitefield.
Health Minister UT Khader affirmed that statutory hygiene standards must be rigorously maintained across all hospitality tiers without exception. Officials collected 35 targeted samples ranging from poultry and dairy to spices and sauces for comprehensive laboratory testing, with formal notices served to offending operators pending further legal proceedings.
