Amritsar, 8 January 2025: A Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) delegation met Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh of Sri Akal Takht Sahib at his residence today to discuss critical political developments, including the pending resignation of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
SAD leader Daljit Cheema informed that Sukhbir Singh Badal had already submitted his resignation to the party’s Working Committee. “The resignation has not yet been accepted, but the Working Committee will meet in a day or two to finalize the matter,” said Cheema. He also briefed the Jathedar on the legal processes surrounding party reorganization and emphasized that any such activity must adhere to the party’s constitution.
The delegation also addressed emerging challenges, including the announcement of a new Panthic party on January 14 during the Maghi festival. Cheema called for transparency regarding the conditions set by the Election Commission for the formation of new parties.
Cheema further criticized the Indian government’s decision to replace the administrative advisor’s post in Chandigarh with that of a Chief Secretary. “This move suggests a step towards permanently declaring Chandigarh as a Union Territory, undermining Punjab’s rights,” he said. “It is dictatorial, undemocratic, and a betrayal of Punjab. We strongly demand an immediate withdrawal of this decision.”
Paramjit Singh Sarna, another Akali leader, voiced concerns over allegations that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi is offering money to Granthi Singhs and Ragi Singhs. Sarna said, “No Granthi Singh or Ragi Singh of the Guru Ghar will accept such payments. Anyone who does so will cease to be recognized by the Guru Ghar.”
The delegation reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Punjab’s interests and preserving its cultural and religious integrity.
