Jalalabad: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders Vardev Singh Noni Mann, his brother Nardev Singh Bobby Mann, and 15-20 unidentified individuals have been booked for attempted murder following an attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Mandeep Singh Brar in Fazilka district, police said.

Brar was shot outside the block development and panchayat officer’s office in Jalalabad on Saturday.

As a candidate for the sarpanch position in Muhammad Wala village, he suffered a bullet wound to the chest and was initially taken to the civil hospital in Jalalabad before being shifted to Ludhiana for further treatment.

AAP MLA Jagdeep Kamboj alleged that Vardev Singh Noni Mann was responsible for firing at Brar.

The FIR was filed based on a complaint from Gurpreet Singh, who is also running for the sarpanch position in Chak Suhelewala village. Gurpreet claimed he was the intended target of the attack, but the bullet struck Brar instead.

Gurpreet noted that Vardev’s son, Harpinder Singh, had also submitted his nomination for the same position in Chak Suhelewala.

Gurpreet stated that he had objected to Harpinder’s nomination, which led to animosity from the Akali leaders and their families.
